I started another blog.

It's not about parapsychology. The nice pictures on Sandy's blog inspired me to bring my camera with me when I go out for a walk....

I'm glad I inspired you. I take so many pictures now that I have a decent digital camera. I loved my old manual 35mm, and I have an old Brownie too, but I'm terrible about developing film. Digital cameras are instant gratification.
I like your new blog!

I even ordered some rechargeable batteries.
http://www.consumersearch.com/batteries/review
The last time I looked at rechargeable batteries was almost 10 years ago. There are new hybrid NiMH 2000 mAh batteries that have a long shelf life after charging (ie sanyo eneloop) which are good if you don't use them regularly. But there are also, 2700 mAh NiMH (ie powerex 2700) that will last longer in the camera if you use them right after charging.
I'm going to try the powerex 2700 in my camera since I take walks every few days and my chargers go into trickle charge mode once the batteries are fully charged. My camera takes 4 batteries and I ordered 8 so I can take spare batteries when I go out.
NiMH are good for digital electronics like cameras because they give out high power while they have a reasonable charge left but completely discharging them can ruin them. This is okay since digital electronics won't work once the battery get too low so they usually don't completely discharge the batteries. With NiMH you also don't have to completely discharge them before recharging to prevent them from developing a "memory".
NiCads, if you use them right after charging, are fine for some analog electronics like radios where you can run the batteries until they are completely discharged - which is how I use NiCad's. But they are not good for digital electronics because you need to discharge them completely before recharging to prevent them from developing a "memory".

Hi Sandy,
Do you have a new camera?
I was just looking at new cameras. It looks like 10-12 mega pixels is standard now. My camera is old it only has 2.1 MP.
What is the benefit - that you can print out huge enlargements?
After you have the picture on your computer, can you zoom in on the image to get a good picture of something small that is far away - like using a telephoto lens?
Is the lens on a typical consumer camera ~$150 able to make an image sharp enough, with enough resolution, to take advantage of all those pixels?
Do all those pixels slow down the "shutter speed" or are the new cameras also much faster than the old ones?
Thanks

My camera is a couple years old now. I didn't buy it so much for the electronics but because it has a good lens. It takes the lenses from one of my 35mm cameras as well, so that was nice.
The electronic zoom is only so good. A real camera lens is better. I like having a macro lens for taking nice pictures of flowers and anything I want to get close to. But you can take nice pictures with even a simple camera lens. The picture I have with my NDE account was taken with the first digital camera I had. It was just a simple point and shoot thing with a very basic lens.

It must be nice if you have control over the depth of field. I looked up my camera on google and found a review from 2000 and it turns out it's a more expensive camera than I remembered. It does have macro and zoom settings but I can't control the depth of field by changing the aperture and compensating with a different shutter speed.
My camera doesn't even have a simple lens cap. You have to slide a door towards the lens which retracts then the door slides all the way over the lens. It takes several seconds to do the opposite to turn on the camera. It's a problem because I like to keep the batteries warm in cold weather by keeping the camera inside my jacket on a neck strap, but it can take so long to get the camera open that I can miss a shot if the subject is in moving.
I was looking at cameras again on the internet and there are a lot of nice (expensive) cameras available. If I was going to buy a new camera, I think it would be frustrating that the camera would be obsolete in a year.

I found a few photoblogs with pictures I like
http://www.laurenskuipers.nl/pixelpost/
http://www.durhamtownship.com/
http://rickleephoto.blogspot.com/
http://www.barcelonaphotoblog.com/
I'm thinking that if I look at what other people are doing it will help me with my own pictures. I know there are some really awesome nature photographers around who do amazing things with wide angle lenses and landscapes but I haven't tracked down their sites yet.
There are also tons of blogs with pictures I don't like. Some of them were funny, like one where the pictures were deliberately out of focus to create abstract designs.
