There is an interesting interview with Edgar Mitchell that addresses the topic of UFOs on this site:

http://www.behindtheparanormal.com/podcasts.htm

It is labeled as:

The Winsocket-Harris Public Library announcement is a slightly surreal touch. Apparently those are Rhode Island accents. I would have imagined that the speakers were from New York City or Long Island. After the first two minutes and twenty seconds, though, the main event starts up.

Around 5:30 they mention that Mitchell is a Carnegie-Mellon University alumnus and that he has a degree in Industrial Management. I find that interesting because I happen to feel that industrial issue often lead to holistic thinking. Apparently Mitchell also has astronomy degrees from Harvard and MIT.

Around 10:00 Mitchell talks about metanoia, satori, and a Sanskrit term I can't quite make out. It sounds like Mitchell's teeth are distorting the sounds of his words. Also Mitchell sounds like he has a slight cough. Mitchell says the metanoia/satori experience involves seeing external phenomena normally but experiencing a tremendous visceral impact.

Around 14:25 UFOs are mentioned, together with the tremendously American words, "My people were ranchin' people." Mitchell sounds like a Texan cowboy.

At 24:15 Mitchell questions the hosts' theories of parallel dimensions; Mitchell advocates quantum mechanics.

Mitchell claims that Apollo did NOT provide evidence of alien life, however Mitchell claims the UFO sightings, such as "fireflies," do not count as evidence.

At 33:00, Mitchell gives an interesting frame: his grandparents rode covered wagons out of Georgia into Texas after the Civil War, and Mitchell himself went to the moon, and between the covered wagons and the moon rockets, there was a span of less than a hundred years.

All in all, Mitchell comes across as extremely calm and level-headed. By contrast, Buzz Aldrin is excitable enough to do rap songs. The host noted that Mitchell is "down to earth" due to Mitchell's skepticism regarding spiritual "parasites."

At 42:00 the hosts mention that Apollo 13 would have been scary. Somehow, I think Mitchell's Texan Stoicism would not deign to admit trepidation.
